BRUCE CONKLE (b. 1964, Portland, OR) is a visual artist who brings attention to nature by gilding it. His paintings and sculptures often employ humor—ironic forms, wantonly lustrous surfaces, and a flash of mad science—to address contemporary attitudes towards pressing environmental concerns. After attending the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Conkle earned his MFA from Rutgers University in 1998. Currently, he is an Instructor of art and design at the University of Portland and Portland Community College. Conkle has been featured in solo and group exhibitions across the United States as well as in Canada, Brazil, Iceland, Korea, and Mongolia, and has been the recipient of numerous grants and fellowships including a 2011 Hallie Ford Fellowship in the Visual Arts and an Oregon Arts Commission Artist Fellowship in 2010.
